The Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives and Experiential Learning is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt position reporting to the Director for Residence Life. The Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives and Experiential Learning works closely with other professionals in the administration and management of a comprehensive housing and residence life program that serves 5700+ on-campus students. This position has the responsibility for general administration oversight and management of, that includes but is not limited to, academic initiatives, Faculty In-Residence, Living Learning Communities (LLCs), Theme/Special interest Housing, large scale Residential programs.
The position is responsible for:
Academic Initiatives
- Faculty In-Residence- actively recruit and training new and returning faculty for the faculty-in residence program.
- Collaborate with campus partners, academic colleges in the creation, facilitation, and development of existing and new living-learning communities.
- Marketing and recruit residential students for living-learning communities and themed/special interest housing.
- Responsible for the overall coordination, development, and implementation of programs and initiatives related to residential students’ academic success.
- Coordinate Annual House Calls initiative.
- Serve as the liaison to the Residential Colleges.
- Serves as the department lead for Residential Curriculum.
Supervision and Leadership
- Supervise, train, and evaluate 3-4 full-time, live-in, master’s level coordinators for residence Life.
- Articulate vision, mission, and goals for the area, department, and division.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of departmental goals and initiatives.
- Conduct regular one-on- one meetings with staff.
- Provide appropriate referrals to other university departments/resources as needed.
- Oversee department committees.
- Serve on an on-call duty rotation for 5,700 residents.
Administration
- Assist in the overall direction and strategic planning of short- and long-term goals of Residence Life.
- Maintain accurate accounting of allocated funds and expenditures.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members, departments, and offices across the University to foster strong partnerships.
Other Duties
- Serve as a representative of Housing and Residence Life on various departmental, divisional, and university committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director or Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life.
