Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Mission and Ministry supports the Lasallian Catholic mission of the University by fostering a vibrant culture of service, faith, and justice. The Assistant Director develops and coordinates opportunities that connect students, faculty, and staff with meaningful community engagement, service experiences, and spiritual growth. The Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Service oversees community engagement initiatives and service opportunities locally, nationally, and globally. The Assistant Director serves as the University's primary contact person for community engagement and other related matters, and is responsible for the development, maintenance, and expansion of the University's contacts with individual neighbors and community organizations.
The Assistant Director will model the University's mission through dedicated performance of job duties and responsibilities, exceptional service to all constituencies, respectful collaboration, and a proactive commitment to the principles of the University's Mission and Lasallian Catholic education. This position reports to the Director of Mission and Ministry and collaborates closely with the VP of MDI.
Essential Duties
- Develop, coordinate, and promote service opportunities for students, faculty, and staff in collaboration with local community partners, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based ministries.
- Facilitate reflection and formation experiences that integrate service with Catholic Social Teaching.
- Coordinates logistics for local, national, and international service experiences, including community partner relationship development, program design, publicity, recruitment, student leader formation, and the integration of reflection (domestic and international alternative break programs focused on civic engagement, short and long term).
- Oversees the Community Service Scholar Program from recruitment, selection, programming, etc.
- Advises and maintains weekly volunteer and course community engagement initiatives, in order for students to take advantage of local sustainable service opportunities, such as outreach, mentoring/tutoring, and advocacy programs.
- Maintains excellent relationships with community organizations and campus partners and ensures all partner agency protocols are observed in relation to service programs.
- Assist in managing budgets, schedules, communications, and assessment tools for community engagement and service programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Mission & Ministry and other university divisions to provide spiritual programs such as interfaith dialogue, prayer opportunities, Bible studies, leadership development, and retreats. Support development of a student Mission & Ministry or liturgical team. Remains competent and current through understanding national trends in Civic Engagement and Catholic Social Teaching by developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development experiences.
- Stays informed and knowledgeable about all relevant University policies, guidelines, processes, and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations related to their work.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Serves on committees or task forces, as assigned.
- Attends, supports, and assists with other divisional and University-wide events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Mission & Ministry, Vice President for Mission, Diversity, and Inclusion, or their designee.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education, or related field.
- 3-5 years' experience, ideally in higher education, service management, volunteer work, and/or campus ministry.
- Must possess an understanding of the spiritual/religious development stages of young adults, the dynamics of social change/social justice and /or volunteer management, and the capacity to implement programs to respond to these realities.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Possesses and demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills.
- Embodies a strong, compassionate pastoral presence capable of reflecting the Lasallian educational philosophy of "teaching minds and touching hearts."
- Demonstrated ability to energize and organize students to work for social justice and to design programs that develop students' spiritually.
- Demonstrates ecumenical and interfaith competencies.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse constituents both internally and externally (e.g., students, faculty, staff, employers, parents, alumni, community organizations, prospective students and families).
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in related field
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations in an urban setting.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- This role requires flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend programming needs.
- Requires ability to travel occasionally.
