Job Description
Provides career counseling and advising to students and young alumni via individual advising, workshops and programming. Provides leadership for student programming and outreach for students interested in the Education, Human Services, Non-Profit, Government, International Affairs and Law fields. Coordinates career counseling programs and initiatives for all class years with a focus on student engagement.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Career Counseling and Advising:
- Provide individual, comprehensive career counseling to students of all class years and young alumni, including Strong Interest Inventory interpretations.
- Assist students and young alumni identify and integrate abilities, interests, experience and values with career choice; explore career options using online and print resources; make decisions regarding career choice.
- Connect students with career exploration opportunities including job shadowing, informational interviewing career panels and presentations, community-based learning, workshops, deep-dives, pre-professional advising, etc.
- Teach internship/job search skills such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, networking, researching employers and use of online tools in individual and group settings.
- Develop and present career workshops and prepare related materials
- Critique resumes and cover letters.
- Conduct mock interviews.
- Serve as the Industry Advisor for students interested in select industries:
- Industry advisor to students interested in education, human services, non-profit, government, internal relations and legal fields
- Lead the Education, Human Services & Non-Profit and the Government, International Relations & Law career communities
- Plan and coordinate events and programs for target populations, industries and career community including, but not limited to, alumni panels, employer site visits, recruiter in residence, and industry nights
- Develop and maintain relationships with alumni in career community industries to facilitate connections with students
- Curate industry-specific information for monthly career community newsletters
- Collaborate and build relationships with appropriate departments, faculty and student groups
- Plan staff development trainings around industry information dissemination
- Coordinate industry nights
- Communicate with Employer Relations team about job/internship opportunities and employer trends
- Student Programming and Outreach
- Implement and evaluate student engagement programming
- Serve as liaison to Education, Political Science and Spanish departments
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, college student personnel or related field required.
- 1-3 years of related experience.
- The position requires a strong understanding of the career development of liberal arts students, especially with respect to the role of experiential education within a Jesuit environment.
- Basic experience or knowledge of Handshake or career services management databases
- Strong Interest Inventory Certified or proficient experience administering the Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator or Clifton Strengths.

Salary: The salary range for the Assistant level position ranges from $54,000-$63,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Weekly Hours: 40
