Assistant Director of Chirico Career Center
Provide career education and coaching for undergraduate students. This position will be working with our students for a 10-month period. Plan and execute career-related events, collaborate with staff and faculty to provide career development programs and opportunities, and remain current in technology associated with career development.
- Advise and counsel students individually and in groups on career development, job internship searches, and graduate school application issues and strategies. Review resumes and cover letters, provide mock interview opportunities, and networking opportunities. Educate students on the role of social media in relation to networking, job/internship searches, and interviewing. (40%)
- Actively connect with faculty and Dean's office as well as other representatives from assigned student populations (student facing departments, clubs, & organizations) to build strong relationships. Collaborate with faculty to present in classrooms and provide career and professional development support to their students. Partner with faculty to develop relevant events for their student population. Partner with student facing departments, student clubs, and organizations to provide coaching and programming for students. Cross-collaborate, develop, and implement a plan to address the needs of students, build relationships and maintain regular contact with relevant campus partners in (but not limited to) Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, student organizations, Athletics, Admissions, and Institutional Advancement. (20%)
- Collaborate with the CCC team to manage and promote appropriate internships and job opportunities available to students. Develop strong, long-term relationships with corporate representatives. Assist in marketing job and internships opportunities to students. Manage the credit internship program for assigned majors, collaborating with employer internship sponsors, faculty, and the Dean's office. (20%)
- Collaborate with team members to create, develop, and execute various events and programs. Market events to assigned students, faculty, and the Dean's office. Create and innovate new programming. (10%)
- Remain current on job market considerations and be able to apply this knowledge when advising students on job market trends (geographic and industry), salary statistics, job search methods, resources, etc. (5%)
- Track utilization of career coaching services, online resources, program attendance, job and internships applications, etc. Assess learning outcomes as a result of participation, and provide assessment of student meetings, programs, and services to the Executive Director. (5%)
MARGINAL DUTIES:
- Perform all other duties as may be required.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required, preferably in career planning or related field. Master's degree preferred. Three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Knowledge of technologies related to career development such as (and not limited to) Handshake, 12Twenty, Vmock, Focus2, Clifton/Strengths, etc. Knowledge of LinkedIn, social media platforms, AI, as well as specific knowledge about using them to job search, network, and market one's skills. Strong interpersonal skills and communication techniques. Good public speaking and group facilitation skills. Experience assisting postsecondary students with career planning and development issues or in higher education career services. Experience working in for-profit and/or non-profit settings outside of higher education.
