Position Purpose

This role will serve as part of the Dartmouth Cancer Center Development team, under the leadership of the Director of Development, Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC), focused on identifying and engaging community members, alumni, corporations, patients and families who have interest in cancer research and clinical care and an inclination towards philanthropy. The Assistant Director of Development, will oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a personal portfolio of prospects. In concert with the Director of Development, DCC and Executive Director, Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center, the position will partner with clinical and research leadership in the Cancer Center, including engaging appropriate leadership with potential individual and corporate donors, supporting the Center's participation in the physician and nurse philanthropy training program, and securing corporate sponsorships for DCC's signature annual fundraising event, the Prouty.

Experience

  • Two to four years of demonstrated success in fundraising in a complex development organization.
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience and comfort cultivating and soliciting donors.
  • Experience working in an academic medical system or university environment preferred.
  • Understanding of and comfort with the intricacies of business travel.
  • Event planning and execution experience.

Description

Fundraising (85%)

  • Clearly articulates the mission of Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) and communicates its fundraising priorities and cases for support to donor audiences.
  • Devises and implements donor-centric fundraising strategies to meet personal activity and revenue metrics through portfolio planning and moves management.
  • Grows the pipeline of potential major gift donors for (DCC) through heavy prospect identification and qualification activity.
  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of approx. 150-200 community members, alumni, corporations, patients and families with the capacity to make multi-year gift commitments to Dartmouth Cancer Center between $25,000 and $500,000.
  • Leads corporate partner and leadership giving programs for Dartmouth Cancer Center development, working with prospects to solicit annual gifts $5k+.
  • Documents and records all activities as appropriate in fundraising databases.

Program & Planning Management (15%)

  • Engages in formulating and leading a comprehensive strategy to provide opportunities to cultivate, engage, and steward top prospects who have an interest in supporting the mission of DCC and the clinical priorities assigned to this role.
  • In concert with Executive Director, FDCC, manage corporate sponsorship fundraising program for the Prouty.
  • In partnership with other members of the development team and close collaboration with the Strategic Engagement team, develops and participates in events and programming in support of fundraising and volunteer objectives, including the Prouty.
  • Participates as a development partner with physicians and nurses who are a part of the philanthropy training program. Attends trainings and one-on-one coaching sessions with assigned participants.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
