Assistant Director of Financial Aid - Compliance & Training
Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships, the Assistant Director of Compliance & Training will assist the Director in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as institutional policy. The Assistant Director of Compliance & Training will work with the Director and Associate Director(s) to develop and conduct routine, small and large group, training on relevant and timely financial aid concepts. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Compliance & Training will also be expected to be fully trained in processing roles within the office, will help with customer service as needed, and will assist in technological improvements related to compliant process of student aid.
Job Summary/Basic Functions:
- Conducts internal assessments, based on a set schedule, of financial aid administration, programs, processes, controls, workflows, and policies.
- Responsible for assisting the Director and Associate Director(s) in University audits, external audits, and program reviews.
- Responsible for identifying areas of vulnerability and risk and developing and implementing corrective action plans in consultation with the Director and Associate Director(s).
- Responsible for maintaining the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Policies & Procedures manuals.
- Serves as a liaison across the University to ensure financial aid compliance is executed effectively.
- Assists the Director and Associate Director(s) with the coordination of training of financial aid staff and other relevant colleagues through the development and delivery of workshops and webinars on federal, state, and institutional financial aid requirements.
- Responsible for assisting the Director and Associate Director(s) with onboarding of new financial aid staff and/or the cross-training of financial aid staff into new job functions.
- Responsible for providing routine financial aid updates to the financial aid staff.
- Provide routine assistance to process of financial aid programs and assists with customer service in the office.
- Assist with technology improvements in the office related to the delivery of compliant financial aid programs.
- Attends training and professional development related to compliance and training initiatives.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years of financial aid work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply federal and state financial aid regulations.
- Financial aid experience in a large computerized system.
- Excellent demonstration of analytical, critical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities to identify trends and provide recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop and conduct large and small group trainings and presentations with a diverse population of both students and staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate that there are no restrictions that would prevent obtaining authorization to access federal, state, and institutional financial aid sites.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the University by the University's insurance carrier.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner's financial aid module. Understanding of Argos.
- Previous financial aid administration and/or compliance experience.
- Previous experience with both internal and external audits, including responding to findings and developing improvement plans.
- Possession of NASFAA Certified Financial Aid Administrator credentials.
