Assistant Director of Housing and Operations

Chatham University is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Director of Housing and Operations to join our Student Affairs team.

This live-on position plays a key leadership role in overseeing all aspects of housing operations and assignments for undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Director will manage our housing software (StarRez), supervise Office Assistants, and serve as a systems-focused, collaborative problem-solver committed to enhancing the residential experience.

This position also serves in the Central Residential Life on-call rotation, which includes frequent evening and weekend responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for housing assignments, billing, and meal plan administration using StarRez.
  • Supervise Office Assistants and coordinate department-level technology systems and modules.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an occupancy management plan.
  • Coordinate all aspects of housing operations, including room assignments, summer housing, and move-in/move-out processes.
  • Facilitate residential student accommodation processes and lead the Medical Accommodations Committee.
  • Serve in the on-call duty rotation and provide after-hours crisis response and support to student staff.
  • Conduct regular residential facility inspections, manage maintenance requests, and oversee damage billing.
  • Coordinate key management processes, including distribution, tracking, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with cross-campus departments (Facilities, Campus Safety, Dining, Student Accounts, and ITS) to ensure a seamless housing experience.
  • Partner with Student Accounts and Business Office on billing accuracy and financial reporting.
  • Support community development efforts and contribute to university/division-wide initiatives and committees.
  • As needed, instruct section of SDE101: Student Success in College in conjunction with a student success coach (fall semester).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in residence life, student development, facilities management, student accounts, or IT services.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and campus stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage ambiguity.
  • Experience in housing operations software (preferably StarRez) and database systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail.

Salary Range:

$46,100 to $52,400. 40 hour work week. Exact compensation based on candidate skills and experience.
