St. Catherine University and Student Center/Activities invites applications for a full-time Director for Campus and Residence Life.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining student engagement through student activities and residential learning communities that provide safe, inclusive, and equitable opportunities for student learning. This position has overall responsibility for the Student Center, both the facility and the program, and is responsible for the overall design, planning, direction and administration of the operational, programmatic, financial and staffing functions of the Residence Life office and Student Center & Activities (SCA) office. The Director develops and implements the mission and goals for these offices, working collaboratively with a diverse student body in creating an inclusive and engaging program of activities and events for our community. The Director for Campus and Residence Life reports directly to the Dean of Student Affairs and is a member under the division of Student Affairs, Equity and Belonging.

  • Through collaboration with students, faculty, and administrative departments, provide leadership for divisional and departmental learning outcomes that promote integrating residential living with the college's academic mission.
  • Provide vision for living learning communities, create opportunities for partnership, and communicate regularly with college stakeholders to support effective living learning and other affinity communities.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the new student orientation programs across the University.
  • Serve as (or delegate a proxy) as primary advisor to systems of student government representing all three colleges; and oversee student government training and development to include: student governance basics, event development, and leadership.
  • Design and implement leadership development programs to assist students in gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform leadership functions.
  • Develop, organize, coordinate and oversee cultural, social, and recreational activities that reflect the diverse population of the University.
  • Assist in campus programming initiatives directly focused on student engagement and represent student needs and issues on various University committees.
  • Work across multiple campus departments to communicate and engage University partners in orientation and student club programming.
  • Oversee all student clubs and organizations, including managing the annual recognition process and support student organization leaders and members through equitable and responsive services.
  • Provide advising, training, and administrative oversight to all campus organizations, including contract management, event planning and project management, as well as the implementation of campus policies and procedures.
  • Manage the CdC (Student Center) to include facilities oversight and the selection, training, and development of student staff.
  • Manage external communications such as the weekly newsletter, social media marketing, and website updates.
  • Overall responsibility for staffing the University's Information Desk.
  • Provide leadership for the Residence Life Department, set goals and objectives for residential life and housing services functions, establish policies and procedures, and evaluate departmental effectiveness.
  • Overall responsibility for the student development aspects of our residence life program.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training process for Community Advisors.
  • Supervise, evaluate, train, and hire professional staff in the Residence Life Office.
  • Overall responsibility for the execution and development of the Living Learning Community program (or, themed housing as appropriate)
  • Counsel and refer any student in crisis to the appropriate case management resource.
  • Respond to emergencies involving resident students.
  • Maintain effective relationships with Public Safety, Counseling Center, Student Accessibility & Accommodations, Facilities, University Events, Admissions, Centers for Equity and Belonging, and Campus Dining.
  • Be accessible after hours by cell phone for crisis and emergency situations.
  • Follow-up with students who have been referred to the Director for personal or social concerns.
  • Facilitate the resolution of conflicts by providing guidance to professional staff; intervening when necessary and referring cases to the appropriate offices/personnel as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with Student Affairs leadership regarding residence life issues and concerns.
  • Oversee the student conduct process for on, and off-campus students, including dispute resolution, appropriate adjudication, and decisions related to the appropriate extension of housing and co-curricular privileges.
  • Work cooperatively with the Department of Facilities Operations, Facilities Planning, and contract staff and vendors to offer housing facilities that support student success.
  • Represent the Campus Life department (Residence Life/Student Center & Activities) at the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders across campus.
  • Communicate strategic vision and mission information to constituents on the direction of the department.
  • Ensure that on-campus events have a coherent, consistent, and collaborative approach to student development.
  • Serve as the primary representative of Campus Life on University committees, initiatives, and working groups.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $78,000

The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. St. Catherine reserves the right to modify or adjust compensation depending on University needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (communication, higher education administration, social work, education, psychology, etc.)
  • Five (5) years of full-time experience leading higher education (or higher education adjacent) initiatives related to student development, student engagement, residential living, and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated experience of supervising full-time professional staff
  • Demonstrated positive impacts across diverse populations with culturally relevant program development and administration, staff training and supervision, leadership, decision-making, budget management, and ability to work effectively in a team relationship.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with proficiency in analytical and critical thinking with the ability to make decisions following appropriate consultation.
  • Higher education experience related to working within student affairs units such as residence life, student activities, and campus events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (communication, higher education administration, counseling, social work, education, psychology, etc.)
  • 2-3 years supervising full time staff, volunteers, and student employees
  • Experience related to managing several divergent tasks simultaneously, managing change, and advising student organizations.
  • Experience with collegiate housing, residential life and effective supervisory experience is highly desirable.
