Assistant Director of Special Projects, Corporate Engagement - University Advancement
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Special Projects will report to the Executive Director of Corporate Engagement and play a pivotal role in achieving organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include undertaking special projects to benefit various schools and units, aiming to minimize redundant efforts and enhance the university's comprehensive relationships with corporations. Additionally, the Assistant Director will assist with the establishment and management of a university-wide Corporate Coordinating Committee and support the development and maintenance of metrics for university-wide corporate engagement. This role also involves supporting the Associate Director of Industry Relations in establishing, developing, and strengthening industrial partnerships in research.
This position is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in fostering effective collaboration among schools and units with the university’s corporate partners, measuring the effectiveness of corporate engagement efforts, and optimizing corporate engagement opportunities.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Special Projects
- Key responsibilities include undertaking special projects to benefit various schools and units, with the goal of minimizing redundant efforts and streamlining processes. The Assistant Director will ensure that all schools and units benefit from shared knowledge, which will be documented in ARCH, a shared CRM system, whenever possible.
- Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director will coordinate with schools and units to identify related special projects that would benefit multiple areas. These projects will be prioritized based on their potential impact on WashU, including advancing government grant opportunities, enhancing research relationships, non-philanthropic sponsorships, industry convenings, and increasing various corporate revenue streams such as continuing education, tech transfer, and non-philanthropic support/engagement with research centers. The Assistant Director will be expected to apply project management principles.
- By centralizing these projects, the Assistant Director will help the Executive Director of Corporate Engagement facilitate efficient communication and collaboration across the university, ensuring that valuable insights and practices are shared widely and effectively. This role aims to foster a coordinated approach to corporate engagement and drive strategic initiatives that support the university's goals and objectives.
University-Wide Metrics and Data Sharing
- The Assistant Director will assist the Executive Director in compiling, analyzing, and disseminating comprehensive university-wide metrics and data to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the university’s corporate relationships. These metrics will enhance university-wide engagement and assist with the effective communication of results to university leaders. The metrics will take into consideration the unique goals and success criteria of each school and unit. Utilizing statistical analysis, the Assistant Director will help foster a cohesive, consistent, and strategic approach to metrics.
Corporate Coordinating Committee
- Organize university-wide Corporate Coordinating Committee that includes key representatives from various schools and units that engage with corporations and industries. This includes the Center for Career Engagement, the Office of Sponsored Research, the Office of Technology Management, the McKelvey Office of Industry Relations, and the University Advancement’s Office of Corporate Relations. Provide support to the Executive Director to ensure communication among internal stakeholders, promoting collaboration and alignment in corporate engagement efforts across the university with a special focus on the university’s top corporate partners. Perform follow-up tasks between meetings. Work with the Executive Director of Corporate Engagement to gather information on best practices for university-wide corporate engagement and disseminate to the Corporate Coordinating Committee as appropriate. Serve as lead for internal celebratory events.
Marketing and Outreach
- Create internal and external-facing materials and maintain a website to advance corporate engagement opportunities for the university.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree
Work Experience: Relevant Experience (2 Years)

- Experience with university-industry partnerships.
- Expertise in analyzing and presenting data.

This position is located in St. Louis, MO and the targeted hiring range for this position is $49,700 - $58,000.
Salary Range
$49,700.00 - $82,100.00 / Annually
