Job Description
The Assistant Director of Basketball Strength and Performance will serve as the primary strength and performance coach for the Women's Basketball program, working under the direction of the Director of Basketball Strength and Performance. This role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive, science-based training programs aimed at optimizing athletic performance and reducing injury risk. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the integrated performance team-including Sports Medicine, Nutrition, Psychology, and Sport Science-to apply data-driven strategies that support the holistic development of student-athletes. This position also contributes to performance research, data collection and analysis, and technology integration, and requires travel with the Women's Basketball team.
Essential Functions:
- Assist the Director of Basketball Strength and Performance in all aspects of Student Athlete performance development
- Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams
- Assist and develop athletic performance research and testing initiatives for the athletic department
- Create and foster internal and external collaboration with other athletic departments and professional sports teams in multiple performance areas including but not limited to OU Heath and Exercise Science department on research techniques and data analytics
- Collaborate with Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, and Sports Psychology to optimize student athlete welfare and development through actionable data
- Support the development of reports, protocols, and policies as it relates to sports science technology and performance
- Assist in the collection and processing of data obtained to monitor Student Athletes' health and developmental process
- Participate in the overall maintenance of strength and conditioning facilities and equipment
- Assist in the development and implementation of Graduate Assistant curriculum
- Assist team nutritionist as needed with the execution of fueling needs
- Work with service providers as it relates to sport science support as directed by the Basketball Strength and Performance Head Strength Coach
- Travel required with Women's Basketball
- Participate in team meetings pertaining to student-athlete performance as needed
- Assist in the recruitment process of prospective student-athletes
- Execute student-athlete strength and conditioning assessment and testing battery under the direction of the Director of Performance
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from accredited University or College preferably in a health-related field, AND: 24 months experience as a college or professional strength coach.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In depth science-based knowledge of exercise programing, anatomy, and human movement.
- Ability to effectively communicate, educate, motivate, instruct a diverse population of athletes and coaches with different learning styles.
- Critical thinking ability to analyze and correct deficient movements.
- Ability to work in fast paced demanding environment with self-awareness and ability to adjust on the fly.
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- CSCS or CSCCa Certified
- Master's degree in Exercise Science or related field
- Experience with athlete load monitoring and force-plate implementation
- Research experience in athlete performance
- Experience in athlete screening and evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and implement sport science solutions in an applied performance setting
- Exhibit the capacity to disseminate knowledge associated with innovative sport science practices to improve student athlete performance and welfare in a variety of mediums
- Knowledge of NCAA guidelines and regulations
- Proven experience creating and fostering connections with experts within the sport science field
- Demonstrated experience presenting sport science concepts to performance coaching groups of all levels
- Excellent verbal and writing skills
- Experience working with athlete load monitoring in an applied sports setting
Working Conditions:
- Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Regular pressure to meet productivity standards
- Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods
- Potential travel with various teams possible
- Physical working requirements: Ability to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively. Exposure to temperature changes. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold.
