Primary Function:
The primary functions of the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services (AD) is to provide a high-level of support to prospective and current students during the financial aid process. The AD will assist in creating financial aid packages, holding financial aid information sessions, and resolving student issues. The AD will serve as a liaison for the SFS and the Office of Admission (OA) to optimize customer service. This position will also directly manage the institution’s federal work study (FWS) program.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assists with the creation of financial aid award letters.
- Records parent and student communications and interactions in PowerFAIDS (that impact financial aid) and Slate.
- Participates in financial aid and recruitment events as needed.
- Local high school FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Nights, FAFSA Goal Sunday, regional prospective student receptions, and on-campus recruitment events.
- Reviews and communicates missing documents and information to complete enrollment, secures financial aid and facilitates matriculation.
- Coordinates the Federal Work-Study program and student employment on campus by working with faculty and staff to fill open positions.
- Provides quality customer service to prospective and continuing students regarding federal work study eligibility.
- Analyzes student’s financial aid files to determine a student's federal work study eligibility.
- Interacts in a professional manner with students regarding their student employment situation.
- Utilizes and updates necessary databases, as well as processing applications for student employment.
- Required to assist in the preparation of and present information regarding the federal work study employment process and how students can find a job on campus by using various communication methods such as social media, presentations to students and parents at events, group discussions, workshops, etc.
- Answer questions, inquiries or requests from students, parents, or guardians in person or in writing regarding federal work study and student employment.
- Be well educated in financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, indebtedness, responsible money management and financial planning.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May be asked to supervise student worker(s).
Financial Responsibilities:
- Works within the established budget set for the office.
Other Responsibilities:
- Promotes a positive image of Hanover College and represents the College in accordance with the College’s mission, principles, and strategic plan.
- Support a welcoming college environment.
- Maintains confidentiality when and as needed relative to work performed and access to information.
- Performs / completes other projects and tasks assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Education, Certifications, Training, Experience
- Bachelor's degree required
- Previous higher education experience preferred
- GAAP (general accepted accounting principles) preferred
- Data management and integrity required
- Knowledge of financial aid principles and practices preferred

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Ability to learn and work effectively using multiple systems and processes
- Knowledge of Slate, PowerFAIDS, Jenzabar or other CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems preferred
- Strong organizational and administrative skills

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Continuous computer work requiring multiple hours of looking at monitors and paperwork
- Long periods of sitting and typing.
- Demanding and somewhat stressful with time sensitive requirements
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy, and an adherence to high ethical standards.
- Minimal travel.
- May be eligible for occasional remote work at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
