Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Assistant Director, Office of International Students and Scholars serves as the international student adviser to all UNCW F-1 degree-seeking international students. This position involves working with international students to initiate visa sponsorship, manage I-20 applications, and advise on visa procedures. Responsibilities include managing Terra Dotta and related software (Banner, Slate, Excel) for F-1 students, advising on immigration and personal matters, completing SEVIS updates, and running workshops on topics like OPT/CPT and maintaining legal status. The role also includes liaising with faculty and staff, serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in SEVIS, and assisting with international student orientations and events.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Master's degree
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, as required by federal regulations
- Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends; domestic and international travel required from time to time
- At least two years of experience in student advising, immigration advising, program coordination, and/or international admissions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated international knowledge and sensitivity
- Able to plan and manage time effectively
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Student advising experience
- Knowledge of SEVIS and F or J regulations.
- Proficiency in a language in addition to English.
