General Statement of Job
The Assistant Director, Perth Amboy Center performs managerial, professional work assisting with the development of the academic class schedule for the Center and coordinating student and enrollment services for students.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Supervises evening staff and serves as administrator-in-charge for evening operations.
- Functions as the Principal Academic Advisor for the Center, assisting both ESL and non-ESL Students.
- Serves as lead Center administrator/supervisor in the absence of the Director.
- Assists with the development of the academic class schedule for the Center by tracking students’ needs.
- Serves as the Professor liaison for the Center.
- Provides individual and group consultation and advisement to students in areas such as course selection, financial aid, career exploration, job placement and other referrals.
- Assists students with arrangements for Basic Skills/ESL placement testing, interprets test results for students, and provides guidance regarding remediation.
- Facilitates orientation sessions for ESL students.
- Coordinates student support services with appropriate campus staff to assure consistency and to ease transition to the main campus; Assists the Center staff with processing forms for credit and non-credit registrations.
- Oversees the creation and implementation of co-curricular activities.
- Assists with the coordination of recruitment and retention efforts.
- Assists with building management and concerns.
- Assists in generating publicity and promotional materials in support of Center operations; Visits High Schools and centers to recruit students.
- Serves on community and campus committees.
- Collects data and prepares reports as assigned.
- Maintains current knowledge of Financial Aid Academic Compliance rules and SAP processing. Assists students with SAP calculator and creating an academic plan.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- Three (3) years of relevant administrative experience;
- Ability to deal effectively with a multicultural client base;
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office; and
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree;
- Previous advising and financial aid experience; and
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
Physical Requirements
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hearing 1: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.

- Talking 1: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Visual Acuity 1: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
Supplemental Information
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. May require occasional travel.
