Assistant Director, Quantum Science and Engineering MS Programs
The University of Delaware has launched a new graduate degree program in Quantum Science and Engineering (QSE). This program trains M.S. and Ph.D. students with skills to develop hardware and software for devices leveraging quantum phenomena for improved sensing, computation, and simulation. Responsibilities include recruiting applicants, developing educational programs, maintaining teaching laboratories, teaching QSE courses, and supervising research projects.
Major responsibilities: Recruit MS program applicants; Develop and deliver information sessions; Establish and maintain QSE teaching and research capabilities; Provide training and oversight for safety; Install, maintain, and calibrate equipment; Supervise MS student practicum and research; Coordinate with facility directors; Develop hands-on projects; Collaborate on strategic planning; Identify new educational opportunities; Supervise staff; Maintain professional competence; Build industry relationships; Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree with at least five years of experience in ultrafast laser systems, cryogenics, or quantum optics; In-depth knowledge of quantum information technologies; Hands-on experience preferred; Ability to learn new techniques; Troubleshooting skills; Project management skills; Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Special requirements: Work involves safety training, protective equipment, handling hazardous materials, exposure to lasers and cryogenic temperatures; Requires physical tasks like lifting up to 50 lbs.
