The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is responsible for all phases of the program including organization and administration, quality student-athlete recruitment, fiscal management, viable fund raising and public relations, and other duties as assigned by the Head Men's Basketball Coach.
Salary and Benefits
$40,000 - $45,000, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver effective on date of hire.
Primary Duties
- Assist in the development of game strategies, create practice plans, and provide on-court instruction to players.
- Coach players individually and in groups, monitor academic progress, and ensure athletes meet conduct and culture standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented student-athletes who meet the university's academic and athletic requirements.
- Assist with camp coordination and other program fundraising needs.
- Ensure the program adheres to all NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
- Serve as a GVSU ambassador, engage with media, and participate in fundraising and community events.
- Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience playing at the collegiate level.
- Experience recruiting and coaching at the collegiate level.
- A thorough understanding of and accountability to NCAA rules and regulations.
- Experience in program planning and teaching.
- Strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athletes and NCAA compliance with the highest of ethical standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.
- Driving a company/university vehicle may be required. A valid drivers license is a requirement and a MVR needs to be conducted upon hire.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Master's Degree
- Experience playing at the NCAA Division 1 or Division 2 level
- Experience with Teamworks software.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Nights, weekends, and travel are required.
