Assistant Professor – American Politics or Comparative Political Behavior
The Department of Political Science at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in American Politics or Comparative Political Behavior. This position would begin in Fall 2026. The department is interested in applicants with expertise in American political institutions, American elections, American political behavior, or elections and political behavior in countries other than the United States. Successful candidates will have a strong record of demonstrated research excellence. Additional duties include fostering inclusive teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, conducting a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental, college, and university levels.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Political Science or a closely related field conferred by August 31, 2026. Research work applying cutting-edge approaches to problems in American Politics or Comparative Political Behavior.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated record of the following, as evidenced by the applicant’s CV, letters of recommendation, and supporting materials: Record of producing high-quality research, Strong research background and training, Strong publication record, Research interests in political behavior, American politics, or comparative politics, Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
