St. Catherine University and the Education BA/BS department invite applications for a .30 FTE on a 9-month contract Assistant Professor and Montessori Coordinator.
This position primarily oversees the AMS Early Childhood Credential program, acting as the Site Director according to AMS and MACTE accreditor. The position teaches a .3 load, likely limited to two in-person methods classes during the summer and overseeing the practicum experience in fall and spring. There is no expectation for live work during business hours of the fall and spring semesters.
Responsibilities Include:
- Principal administrator for program oversight of the summer intensive courses.
- Conducts annual site visits to host schools.
- Coordinates and runs monthly triad meetings.
- Attends monthly AMS TEP meetings.
- Completes a .33 teaching load, amounting to a 2.0 teaching emphasis load, likely spread across four .5 undergraduate courses.
- Prepare and teach in-person Montessori methods courses, as assignment.
- Prepare and teach online courses in the ECE bachelor degree and credential programs.
- Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities, affirming the worth and preserving the dignity of individuals, families, and communities.
- As able, attends professional conferences for recruiting and scholarship, which may or may not include presenting original sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Education with at least 18 graduate credits in the area of instruction (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Child Development)
- Montessori credentialed at the primary level (ages 3-6) from a MACTE approved training program (AMI or AMS)
- A minimum of 3 years full time experience as the lead teacher or teacher of record in an early childhood Montessori classroom
- Knowledge of a broad variety of early childhood education theories, curriculum and program models
- Knowledge of and commitment to anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy and curriculum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral level degree in Education or related field in preparation to teach Action Research courses (Introduction to Action Research and Integration Seminar)
- American Montessori Society (AMS) certified
- Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 3) or K-6 with Preprimary Endorsement
- Current or past professional license that align(s) with available courses
- Critical, self-reflective pedagogy, and anti-oppressive practice experience
- Experience teaching and mentoring diverse populations
- Experience working with non-traditional adult college students
- Experience delivering instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments
- Experience supervising and supporting teachers
