Salary: Commensurate with education and experience and grant funding.

JOB SUMMARY: The Early Childhood Education Instructor will teach early childhood education courses and advise early childhood education majors. They will be responsible for implementation of instructional duties related to the Wakanyeja Icin Wounspekiya Waste project. The Early Childhood Education faculty member will provide instruction throughout the eleven district sites which may require extensive travel. The instructor must be willing to teach in different modalities; face to face, distance learning and online.
The Education Instructor is under the direct supervision of the Dean of Education.
JOB DUTIES:
- Instruct full time college education courses leading towards an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Preschool) and serve as an academic advisor to early childhood education majors.
- Assist early childhood education teacher candidates in meeting the InTASC and NAEYC standards, and in developing their professional portfolios.
- Serve on one of the college wide governance committees.
- Participate in academic division long range plans, goals, objectives and work toward the Education Department goals and objectives.
- Work with other departments, including the Wounspe Oaya Tokahe Birth to Five Head Start program, in the further development of courses and programs.
- Develop curriculum on an on-going basis including incorporation of Lakota Perspective in all courses.
- Develop and deliver distance learning curricula with appropriate technologies.
- Develop and deliver co-curricular events to support departmental learning outcomes.
- Extensive travel required to instruct classes.
- Participate in the evaluation and improvement of the departmental assessment system.
- Participate in institutional effectiveness planning and reporting, including the Wakanyeja Icin Wounspekiya Waste project.
- Participate in assessment of student learning.
- Attend departmental and instructional division meetings.
- Fulfill faculty duties as prescribed by OLC faculty expectations policies.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters or above in Early Childhood Studies or Education with pre-kindergarten certification required; eighteen (18) graduate credit hours in early childhood or early childhood special education preferred.
- SD DOE teacher, administrator or education specialist certification required.
- Reliable transportation as a great deal of travel will be required.
- Demonstrated success in college teaching, preferably with Indian College students, preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching or leading at the Pre K-12 level.
- Knowledge of distance learning formats.
- Knowledge of Lakota history, culture, philosophy and language.
