Assistant Professor - Anthropology, Sociology and Criminology
Job Summary
The Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology at Troy University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach courses related to Forensic Science. The anticipated start date is August 2026.
We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Forensic Biology/Chemistry, or a closely related field to support the growth and development of our popular Forensic Science program. Doctoral candidates who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered.
If hired, the candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credit hours per semester (4/4 teaching load) in a combination of face-to-face and online undergraduate courses focused on forensic biology/chemistry, criminalistics, forensic investigation, and other advanced subjects appropriate to their expertise. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to utilize equipment in the University’s Center for Materials and Manufacturing as well as a new forensic laboratory space, which includes an active dermestid beetle colony. We highly encourage applicants whose research specializes in any of the following areas, including, but not limited to: forensic toxicology, forensic analytical chemistry, forensic biology, forensic entomology, etc. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, mentor and advise students, and provide service to the department, university, and community. The successful candidate will also support the Forensic Science program in its pursuit of FEPAC accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Forensic Biology/Chemistry, or closely related field (applicants who are ABD and near graduation will also be considered)
- Ability to teach in both face-to-face and online environments
- Ability to conduct scholarly research, publish peer-reviewed work, and seek out grant funding in area of specialization
