"Assistant Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry"

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of San Diego invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2026. We seek a dynamic teacher/scholar with experience that complements our department, including expertise in interdisciplinary fields connected with bio/chemistry, NMR spectroscopy, bio/chemical education, or approaches that leverage big data. Successful candidates will have a robust commitment to undergraduate research and education, including teaching in the general chemistry sequence, courses in their area of expertise, and enriching the liberal arts curriculum. We aim to hire faculty who are committed to creating a welcoming environment that fosters each student's academic and personal development, and creating an active, externally-funded research program that mentors undergraduate students in a cohesive academic community. Key responsibilities include excellence in teaching via the use/development of innovative, effective pedagogical practices, designing and teaching novel courses within the bio/chemistry curriculum, providing hands-on research opportunities, and guiding undergraduate students in their research endeavors to develop critical thinking and independent research skills. The successful candidate will work with colleagues from different disciplines to integrate science with broader societal issues and take full advantage of the USD STEM Initiative, which will establish a high impact, collaborative teaching and research environment that integrates the natural sciences and engineering.

Qualified candidates should hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field and postdoctoral training is preferred. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research, mentoring undergraduates, and fostering a welcoming environment.
