Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Salve Regina University Counseling Education and Expressive Arts Department seeks applications for a new full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Counselor Education. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong counseling identity and a commitment to teaching professional counseling classes both online and in-person.
Salve Regina's 60-credit Counseling Program offers two accredited counseling tracks:
- An in-person Clinical Mental Health Counseling track with a focus on holistic and systemic perspectives.
- An online Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling track, with a focus on disability justice.
Our department's collaborative and collegial faculty share a commitment to holistic counselor education, evidence-based practice, and systemic perspectives that integrate justice, equity, and multiculturalism. Our curriculum also foregrounds the Mercy Sisters' Critical Concerns: anti-racism, the earth, non-violence, women's issues, and immigration. We seek a tenure-track colleague who shares these commitments and values thus contributing to a supportive academic community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a full-time teaching load (3/4 course load) during the 9-month academic year, with opportunities for summer teaching if desired.
- Teach across the CACREP core areas, based on departmental needs and candidate expertise.
- Develop and maintain engaging course content through the university learning management system (LMS).
- Academic advising and mentoring of counseling students in course trajectory, professional formation, disposition, and career development.
- Maintain an active program of scholarship and professional activity consistent with tenure-track responsibilities in Counselor Education.
- Participate in continual professional development and engagement with the ACA, ACES, and related professional organizations.
- Collaborate with the Program Counseling Director, Clinical Coordinator, and Evaluation Coordinator.
- Attend departmental, program, and university committee meetings, contributing to governance and strategic initiatives.
- Perform additional professional duties as requested by the Graduate Program Director.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate (by start date) in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
- A strong counseling identity with evidence of counselor education teaching experience.
- A teaching and mentoring philosophy grounded in student-centered learning and equity.
- Pedagogy and scholarship that integrate the University's Five Critical Concerns (immigration, anti-racism, women and gender, non-violence, and the earth), and/or other systemic, and holistic perspectives.
- Ability to teach effectively in-person and online.
- Eligibility to work in the United States at the time of appointment and throughout the term of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of counseling, supervision, and advising experience in Counselor Education.
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or CRC-eligible, with experience supporting rehabilitation counseling students.
- Record of (or potential for) scholarly contributions to the field of Counselor Education and supervision.
- Holding, or being license eligible, as a mental health counselor in Rhode Island (or ability to transfer license to RI within one year).
- Experience counseling and/or conducting research with underserved populations.
- Background working in not-for-profit, grassroots, or community-based organizations, especially those engaged in disability justice and racial equity.
