The Department of Clinical Psychology at Seattle Pacific University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. This is a full-time position starting September 1, 2026, with a possibility of moving to tenure-track in the future. Exceptional candidates with outstanding qualifications and experience may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Description:

We seek an individual to teach doctoral coursework, supervise doctoral student research, and provide clinical consultation and supervision in our APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. While we welcome applications from any area of specialization and research expertise in health service psychology, we have immediate needs for individuals who can teach classes in assessment (e.g., cognitive, personality) and foundational clinical skills. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach broadly across our program rather than only in a narrow specialty area and who are attentive to the professional development needs of early-career graduate students.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching master’s and doctoral courses in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. curriculum.
  • Establishing and maintaining an active program of research.
  • Mentoring and supervising students in research and clinical activities.
  • Providing statistical mentoring for student dissertations.
  • Seeking intramural and/or extramural research funding.
  • Participating in administrative assignments and service within the department, school, and university.

Requirements:

  • An earned doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship
  • Personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm about supporting SPU's mission, alignment with the University's Statement of Faith, and willingness to accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian community.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral or other advanced training in research and/or a clinical specialty, a record of published research, and evidence of or potential for grant support of research are preferred
  • Experience and interest in teaching graduate level statistics is preferred
  • A psychology license in the State of Washington or license eligibility is also preferred

Instructions for Applicants:

  • Only applications received through the online portal will be considered. To be fully considered, the application package requires:
  • Completed SPU faculty application on the SPU Careers page
  • Resume/CV (uploaded in Workday)
  • Cover Letter (uploaded in Workday)
  • The faculty application will include a request to upload a faith statement, teaching philosophy statement and a narrative of research trajectory.
  • Other supporting documents when possible (e.g., a representative syllabus; copies of teaching evaluations; one or more recent publications)
  • References may be requested at a later date.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: Assistant level starts at $84,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience and assigned rank.

Faculty salaries at Seattle Pacific University are based on nationally-normed, regionally-adjusted, and discipline-specific data from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Specific salary offers will be determined by level of education and years of relevant experience.

All full-time positions at SPU include a generous benefits package.

  • SPU pays employee premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • SPU makes generous contributions to an employee HSA account
  • 7% contribution to a retirement account, for eligible employees, with immediate vesting in the plan.
  • A tuition discount program is available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.

Review of applications will begin January 1, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including those with experience engaging first-generation students, students of color, and others from historically under-represented and under-resourced communities.

Inquiries should be addressed to: Jenny Lee Vaydich, PhD, Associate Professor & Chair, Research Psychology (MS) and Clinical Psychology (PhD), vaydichj@spu.edu
