Assistant Professor Commercial Law / Transport Law
Within the section of Commercial Law, we are urgently looking for a lecturer for the commercial and transport law courses in the Bachelor of Law and the Master of Commercial Law. The tasks include: performing teaching activities such as developing teaching materials, providing education, and administering exams in commercial law, transport law, and maritime law; coordinating education and acting as a contact person and/or coordinating other activities of the section; coaching moot court teams; and supervising and assessing students in their bachelor and master thesis work. Specific agreements will be made in consultation.
Requirements: You have a Master in Private Law (or equivalent) and have been promoted on a commercial law topic. We expect interest and willingness to deepen and specialize in intellectual property law, international transport, and maritime law. Existing knowledge in education (BKO) and these legal areas is an advantage. Experience as a lawyer, claims handler, etc., in commercial practice is also an advantage. You possess good didactic skills and interpersonal qualities. You can present well and have excellent knowledge of English and Dutch. Your English proficiency must be sufficient to teach in that language. You can demonstrate your writing skills based on your study results and publications. Additionally, you have a cooperative and communicative personality that combines a focus on results with collegiality.
Employment conditions: An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The start date is December 1, 2025, at Campus Woudestein in Rotterdam, Erasmus School of Law. The position is for 0.8 to 1.0 FTE. The salary for a full-time appointment is between €4,728 and €6,433 gross per month (scale 11), in accordance with CAO-NU. Additionally, we offer 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a generous leave scheme. The EUR is affiliated with the ABP pension scheme and offers partially paid parental leave, fully paid additional birth leave for partners, discounts on collective health insurance, and a personal career budget. Employees can also use EUR facilities such as the University Library and get discounts on subscriptions to the Erasmus sports center. The contract is for 18 months and may be converted to indefinite term under positive financial circumstances and continued good performance.
