Position Summary
The Department of Criminal Justice at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Tenure-track faculty positions entail nine months of full-time service.
The Department of Criminal Justice currently offers a bachelor and a master of science in criminal justice, each with an optional concentration in homeland security. The program enrolls about 320 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students per year. The Department of Criminal Justice offers its courses through diverse delivery methods including face to face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. The successful candidates will contribute to and assist with the graduate program.
Austin Peay State University is a public university with an enrollment of nearly 10,000 students located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee and adjacent to the Ft. Campbell, KY, U.S. Army Installation. The Department of Criminal Justice is among the University's largest. The position's responsibilities include teaching courses as assigned by the chair. Courses may require teaching at the Clarksville campus or the Ft. Campbell Center. Additionally, the successful candidate will engage in an active scholarly research agenda, advise students, and participate in relevant service to the university, community, and discipline.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach three to four courses (graduate and undergraduate level) per academic semester as assigned by the chair
- Advise majors as needed
- Provide service including, but not limited to, departmental, college, and/or university committee work
- Maintain an active scholarly research agenda
- Faculty may teach during the summer semesters for additional compensation (subject to availability)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- An ability to teach a wide range of criminal justice courses
- Particular emphasis in teaching theoretical based courses (criminology, advanced criminology, graduate criminology)
- Experience teaching across a variety of delivery methods (online, hybrid, face to face, etc.)
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in criminal justice or criminology. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position.
