SUMMARY
The Department of Criminal Justice at SUNY Brockport invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2026. We seek a faculty member specializing in criminal courts and law, forensic law, and legal issues in criminal justice. The ideal candidate will strongly commit to teaching excellence, student engagement, scholarly productivity, and faculty services.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Expected 3-3 course load
- Teaches undergraduate courses such as criminal courts and law, constitutional criminal procedure criminal law, and forensic law
- Provides academic advising and mentorship to students
- Engages in scholarly activity to produce scholarly publications and related scholarly work, including publishing peer-reviewed articles in peer-reviewed national or international journals, conducting professional presentations at regional and national conferences, and engaging in other scholarly activities
- Engages in enrollment and retention initiatives
- Attends University events
- Provides service to the department, college, community, and profession
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, political science, sociology, or other closely related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. ABD candidates will be considered, but a degree must be conferred within six months of hire.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach courses related to criminal courts and law, constitutional criminal procedure, criminal law, forensic law, and legal issues in criminal justice
- Evidence of scholarly activities in criminal justice
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment
- Ability to effectively engage faculty, staff, and students collegially and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach various undergraduate courses in our criminal justice curriculum
- Potential to teach and research in the forensic science/evidence area
- Ability to teach undergraduate courses online
- J.D. degree (in addition to Ph.D.) or substantial academic or professional background in criminal justice
