Position Description
The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026. The department has a strong, proven reputation for educating and training women of African descent to excel in STEM fields. We seek outstanding teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in the area of physiology/neuroscience/cell biology. An ideal candidate would demonstrate a history of innovative research and a commitment to diversity inclusion. Applicants are also expected to engage in scholarly activity and to actively pursue an independently-funded research program and engage students in scholarly activity.
The department has a strong, proven reputation for educating and training women of African descent to excel in STEM fields. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses at the undergraduate level in at least one or more of the traditional sub-disciplinary areas of biology: organismal biology and/or physiology. The position also requires contributing effectively to curriculum development efforts, advising, and mentoring students, and providing service to the department and college. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also be able to teach undergraduate introductory courses in organismal biology/physiology/neuroscience and/or cell biology as well as contribute to curriculum development efforts by creating or redeveloping an advanced biology elective course related to their area of expertise.
This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related area.
