"Assistant Professor in Health Psychology"

The Department of Psychology at Dickinson College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Health Psychology beginning Fall 2026; area of specialty is open.

We seek candidates who are committed to high standards of scientific rigor and transparency, and whose research interests complement and enhance the department’s existing programs. The successful candidate will have access to a well-equipped human subjects research suite and ample lab space to support their research program.

The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Health Psychology and two upper-level courses, Research Methods in Health Psychology and Seminar in Health Psychology; the focus of the latter two courses will lie in the candidate’s area of expertise. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to the broader psychology curriculum by teaching (on a rotating basis with other psychology faculty) Analysis of Psychological Data or Design of Psychological Research and a First Year Seminar. The successful candidate will contribute to the Health Studies Certificate program, teaching (on a rotating basis with other Health Studies faculty) Introduction to Health Studies and Senior Seminar in Health Studies. The teaching load is five courses per year, and research methods courses with labs count as two courses.

The successful candidate will also be engaged in an active and sustained program of research that advances psychological knowledge and involves Dickinson’s exceptional undergraduates in that research.

Candidates are also expected to become active and engaged members of our academic community. Through their teaching, mentorship and service, Dickinson faculty foster welcoming and supportive environments for all learners.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Health Psychology or a closely related field. We seek an educator and scholar who teaches with passion and possesses a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment. Our largest classes have a capacity of 35 students. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.

Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with 2,300 students recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and close student-faculty interaction. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg, PA, and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.
