The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in any area of Psychology. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Psychology and have an active research agenda in an area of the discipline that can contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs at UAH. The department’s strengths include industrial/organizational psychology, human factors, psychology and law, social psychology, development, learning, thinking, and memory.
We especially encourage applications from individuals with strong teaching skills and/or demonstrated professional development related to teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, determined by the needs of the program. In addition, the faculty member will supervise undergraduate and graduate students conducting lab-based research in their area of specialty.
We expect the successful candidate to be active in the discipline and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in addition to classes related to their research. The successful candidate may also be interested in the many opportunities for cross-disciplinary research at UAH.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity or the potential for scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, external funding).
- Demonstrated evidence of successfully mentoring M.S. and/or Ph.D. students in Psychology or the potential for successful mentoring.
- Demonstrated evidence of ability to pursue a defined research agenda in Psychology.
- Experience teaching university students in online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face models and/or significant professional development in teaching.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialization in one or more areas of Psychology that build upon or complement strengths of the department, including counseling, psychology and law, human factors, industrial/organizational, social psychology, or related fields.
- Experience developing graduate and undergraduate curriculum and programs.
- Ability to collaborate with other units and colleagues within the university and the community.
- Experience seeking and/or securing grant funding.
- Active participation in professional organizations.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and building sustainable collaborative relationships with business entities and government agencies.
Additional Information: The Department of Psychology offers two undergraduate degrees, a B.A. with a concentration in psychological services and a B.S. with a concentration in psychological sciences, as well as a 4+1 joint undergraduate and Master’s degree. In addition, the department offers the M.S. in Experimental Psychology with an optional concentration in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Applied Experimental Psychology with concentrations in Human Factors and Psychology & Law (Ph.D. students minor in quantitative psychology). Psychology department faculty focus on direct mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty teach courses in many areas, including clinical, experimental, social, developmental, cognitive, biological, perceptual, industrial, and engineering.
Rank and Salary: This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank, experience, and qualifications. An excellent and comprehensive benefits package is available.
