Assistant Professor in Sustainable Surface and Underground Mining
The Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining in the Stephen J.R. Smith Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching-focused faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in sustainable surface and underground mining. The preferred start date is January 1, 2026.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering or a related discipline by the start date. Professional engineering licensure in Canada, or eligibility to obtain it, is required.
The main criteria for selection are:
- Outstanding teaching contributions at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, with a genuine commitment to academic and teaching excellence (teaching will make up approximately 70% of this position);
- Demonstrated excellence in research, including high-quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research, peer-assessed publications, and securing external research funding, complementing existing department areas;
- Evidence of ability to work collaboratively in an innovative, interdisciplinary, and student-centered environment;
- Relevant industrial experience as a significant asset.
The successful candidate will contribute through service to the department, Faculty, University, and/or broader community. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
