The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Utah invites applications for two career-line faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) to begin July 1, 2026. We seek candidates who will contribute to the department's growing Criminology major and its prospective Criminology Master's degree, as well our undergraduate Sociology curriculum. Persons appointed to these positions will teach multiple core courses in our undergraduate and graduate degree programs, such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Criminological Theory, Research Methods in Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, and/or Sociology of Law, as well as elective courses in the Criminology BA/BS and prospective MS degree programs. Ideal candidates will be able to bridge the Criminology and Sociology degree programs. Candidates should hold a PhD in Sociology, Criminology, or Criminal Justice by the beginning of the appointment.

The Department of Sociology and Criminology awards BA/BS in Sociology, BA/BS in Criminology, Master of Statistics, and PhD degrees, and plans to launch an MS in Criminology in the near future. At the undergraduate level, it serves approximately 900 undergraduate students across the Criminology and Sociology majors; these majors are some of the most diverse at the University of Utah. The department also has a well-regarded doctoral program.
