Assistant Professor, Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Whitworth University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics position, beginning Fall 2026. This role involves teaching a diverse range of undergraduate mathematics courses, with a teaching load of 21 credits across fall, January, and spring terms. Core Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Deliver a variety of lower-division mathematics courses and upper-division courses aligned with your expertise. Candidates with the ability to teach classes in pure mathematics, statistics, and/or mathematics education will be preferred.
  • Advising: Mentor and guide undergraduate students in academic and career planning.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to designing and updating mathematics curricula.
  • Research: Maintain an active research program, ideally involving undergraduate students.
  • Service: Participate in departmental activities, university committees, and student recruitment efforts.

Qualifications and Core Competencies

  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and its integration with teaching and scholarship.
  • Alignment with Whitworth University's mission as a Christian liberal arts institution.
  • A Ph.D. in mathematics (or ABD with a clear, feasible plan to complete the dissertation by the start date).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching, with strong interpersonal skills to connect with students and colleagues.
  • Evidence of potential for sustained research in the candidate's area of specialization, preferably involving undergraduates.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive relationships and effective communication across diverse dimensions, including race, gender, physical abilities, and religious perspectives (prior experience preferred).
  • Proficiency in English, the primary language of instruction.

Salary Information: Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Term: 9 months, Hiring range: $59,572 to $63,718, Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of assistant professor.
