Position Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Manhattan University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2026. We seek dynamic teacher-scholars committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, mentoring, and impactful research aligned with our teacher-scholar model. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Candidates are sought in two primary areas: (1) Solid Mechanics & Mechanical Systems and (2) Thermal/Fluids Engineering.

Within these core domains, we are particularly interested in applicants whose work intersects with one or more emerging areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Data-Driven Engineering Systems, Sustainable Building Systems, Energy Infrastructure, Mechatronics, Intelligent Systems, Aerospace Propulsion, and Space Systems.

This is an excellent time to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Having undergone significant growth over the last decade, the department has started to offer concentrations in Biomechanics and Aerospace, respectively, at the undergraduate level. These concentrations are in addition to the eight concentrations currently offered in the graduate program.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) Mechanical Engineering courses.
  • Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, lectures, assignments, and examinations.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide academic support and mentorship for students.
  • Advise undergraduate students on course selection, academic progress, and career planning.
  • Engage in scholarly research and contribute to the field through publications and pursuit of external funding.
  • Participate in departmental and University service, including curriculum development, student recruitment, outreach, and community engagement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Will consider ABD candidates who will complete all degree requirements by the start date.
  • Demonstrate excellence in academic research and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and student advising.
  • Exhibit dedication to mentoring and supporting a diverse and talented student body in an inclusive and excellence-driven academic environment.
  • Show a clear plan for advancing a research program that meaningfully integrates undergraduate participation and aligns with their scholarly interests.
  • Embrace the teacher-scholar model at a primarily undergraduate institution.
  • Maintain high-quality instruction, an active and productive research agenda, and pursue external funding where appropriate.

Application Process

Interested candidates must:

  • Complete the online faculty application.
  • Submit a detailed curriculum vitae and statements of teaching and research interests.
  • Provide the names and contact information of three references, uploaded as a single PDF document.
