The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Molecular Therapeutics at the Assistant Professor level. The expected start date is July 1, 2026. We seek applicants in the areas of chemical biology, drug discovery, and mechanistic disease biology that fit the overall mission of the Molecular Therapeutics Division (https://mcb.berkeley.edu/faculty/mtx).

Example areas of interest include:

  • Therapeutic Discovery and Modulation: Development of novel chemical probes, small molecule therapeutics, or biologics that modulate disease-relevant biological pathways; new therapeutic modalities and technologies (e.g., induced proximity, multispecifics, designed proteins and biologics).
  • Technological Platforms for Target Discovery: Integrated genetic and chemical 'omics' technologies for discovering disease drivers, targeting undruggable biomolecules or identifying targets of known drugs.
  • Innovations in Screening and Computational Approaches: High-content and computational (AI/ML) methods to access expanded chemical space, including DNA-encoded libraries and mRNA display technologies.
  • Human Disease Modeling: Cellular and organoid systems for disease modeling, including those derived from patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

Molecular Therapeutics faculty at the assistant rank demonstrate excellence, originality, and productivity in research, the strong potential to obtain external funding, a capacity for excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs, consistent with Berkeley's principles of community.
