The Department of History at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of 18th/19th-Century American History, beginning August 2026.

We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, the potential for excellence in graduate instruction, and the pursuit of an active scholarly agenda. The desired candidate will hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment with a focus on American History within the general period of 1783-1898. We welcome applicants with expertise in Native American History, especially with a regional focus on the Southeast.

Applicants who can contribute to the development of our curriculum and existing programs, such as the Social Studies major and related minors/certificates/initiatives at the departmental or college level, are particularly welcome to apply. The successful candidate will teach 6 courses per year: a combination of U.S. History survey courses and upper-level courses in their area(s) of specialization, including courses through the nineteenth century and per the needs of the department and in consultation with the Department Chair.

Interested candidates must apply online at https://jobs.coastal.edu/postings/120395. A complete set of application materials must include: a letter of application describing the candidate’s interest, qualifications, teaching experience, and scholarly agenda; at least 3 sample syllabi (1 early U.S. History survey class and 2 potential upper-level courses); an unofficial transcript; curriculum vitae; and the names and contact information of three references. In addition to these required materials, we also invite applicants to include copies of recent teaching evaluations with their application. A review of applications will begin December 1, 2025 and will continue until the position if filled.
