Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The Department of History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a position as a nine-month non-tenure track lecturer in Atlantic World History, beginning in August 2026.
This is a one-year appointment that is renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. The university provides opportunities for promotion to higher non-tenure track ranks for eligible instructors.
The successful candidate will teach U.S. history surveys, an additional field of survey, and upper-level and/or graduate courses in their field of expertise. The area of specialization and time period is open, with preference given to candidates with experience teaching British history and/or North Carolina history and who can contribute to the department's public history program.
Teaching is the primary focus of this position, and the faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in different modalities. The course load for this position is 4/4.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Ph.D. in History at time of appointment. Please note: Applicants who are ABD at the time of application will be considered; however, doctoral degree must be conferred by August 1, 2026 to be eligible for employment.
- Experience teaching at the university level
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Experience teaching British history and/or North Carolina History
- Ability to contribute to the History Department's Public History Program
- Experience teaching online
