Assistant Professor of History
The University of Mobile College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a full-time/tenure-track Assistant Professor of History position to begin August 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in History based on the needs of the department. While the field and focus are open, the preferred candidate will be able to offer courses in early or modern European and World History, as well as a regular course in Public History. Special consideration will be given to applicants with an earned doctorate able to teach courses in the university’s MA in History and MA in Humanities.
Responsibilities aside from teaching include academic advising, program coordination, curriculum assessment and review, oversight of experiential student learning opportunities, and participation in recruiting events. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required as is experience using a learning management system. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish a positive rapport with students and to maintain an environment that supports learning and promotes student retention.
This position will be a full-time, 9-month appointment. The university academic curriculum is based on a four-day week. Some programmatic activities require evenings and Friday coverage.
Qualifications
Preferred: Earned Doctorate (Ph.D.) in History
Required: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in History
Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience
