Assistant Professor of Sociology (Criminology)
The Department of Sociology at Hofstra University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in our Criminology Program. A Ph.D. in sociology or criminology is preferred. Our program applies a critical lens to the study of the criminal legal system, and we seek scholars whose research and teaching reflect this perspective. While we welcome applicants from all methodological backgrounds and areas of specialization, we are particularly interested in candidates who use qualitative methods with an emphasis on ethnography and/or focus on issues of policing and mass incarceration. The successful candidate will show how their teaching, research, and service would advance Hofstra's mission of building a culturally diverse and inclusive environment. Applicants who submit their materials by September 28 will receive the best consideration, but we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.
The candidate's responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining an active research agenda
- Teaching core introductory, specialty, and capstone courses in the Criminology program
- Developing additional undergraduate courses in their areas of expertise
- Advising and mentoring undergraduate sociology and criminology majors, supervision of independent studies and internships
- Contributing to curricular development and administration of the Criminology Program
- Participating in departmental, college and university committees
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or allied fields required; advanced ABDs will be considered
