Assistant Professor of the Practice in Special Education

Location: Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College

The Teaching, Curriculum, and Society Department in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College seeks to fill a one-year, full-time professor of the practice position beginning Fall 2026. The position is benefits-eligible and non-tenure-track. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. We are particularly interested in a colleague who takes interdisciplinary perspectives on disability. For example, a focus on disability and multilingualism is an important intersection for both research and practice, with relevance to our partnerships with English-learner-serving school districts including Boston, Worcester, and Lynn.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading programmatic development and coordinating the graduate moderate support needs licensure program;
  • Teaching (six courses per year spread over two semesters) in the following: graduate moderate special needs licensure program, the autism certificate program, generalist special education coursework;
  • Student advising;
  • Attending department faculty meetings and relevant committee work.

A commitment to teaching, advising and mentoring master's students is required. Previous experience in K-12 preparing special education teachers at the graduate, undergraduate, and/or or professional development levels is required.
