Assistant Professor of Theatre (Musical Theatre)-Tenure track
JOB SUMMARY:
Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as assistant professor of theatre, starting July 1, 2026. Teaching responsibilities are in-person, on-campus (24 credit hours/year), with courses in both the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music, including Musical Theatre Performance, History of Music Theatre, Applied Voice, and Introduction to Theatre. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of musical theatre repertoire and vocal pedagogy, a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, and an ability to engage a broad spectrum of students. Other responsibilities include academic service, recruitment and retention initiatives, and mentoring students, with opportunities to direct and/or vocal coach productions during the academic year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MFA in Theatre or DMA in Music in hand by July 1, 2026
- Demonstrated success in teaching at the university level
- Demonstrated success in teaching applied voice
- Evidence of achievement in musical theatre at the professional and/or university level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Practice in one or more additional disciplines of theatre, such as stage direction, music direction, choreography, theatre design and construction, etc.
- Keyboard skills
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
