Assistant Professor of Theology

Overview
The Providence College Theology Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant-professor position in Theology with the area of specialization open.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to and competence for teaching in the Providence College team-taught interdisciplinary Development of Western Civilization program. Candidates should be aware there could be a opportunity to teach on occasion in the Department’s graduate program.
Tenure-track faculty appointments at Providence College offer competitive salaries and full benefits. Additionally, the College provides reimbursement of relocation costs, and financial support for faculty development. Faculty may also apply for a semester-long paid sabbatical to support their scholarship before tenure. The standard teaching load is 9 credits, and most classes have 15-23 students enrolled.
Education and Experience
Strong candidates should be deeply rooted in the Catholic theological tradition, should be prepared to teach core courses in theology, and should be able to teach theology in such a way as to facilitate an encounter with Jesus Christ who gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned doctorate in Theology by the start of the Fall 2026 semester
- Evidence of scholarly productivity or the promise thereof
- Successful teaching experience in higher education

The positions start Fall 2026. A successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in any area of Catholic Theology no later than the start of the fall semester.
