Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Theology (Tenure-Track)

The Saint Mary's College Department of Religious Studies and Theology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in World Christianities beginning August 2026. We are particularly interested in a broadly educated scholar-teacher who demonstrates familiarity with the academic study of Catholicism. We are open to candidates who approach World Christianities from any number of subdisciplines, such as history, theology, ethics, comparative religion, biblical studies, and the social sciences.

Teaching, Research, and Service Expectations:

• The teaching load for the advertised position is a 3:3, typically with two preps each semester. Regular teaching responsibilities include Religious Studies and Theology 101 (a broad introduction to the academic study of religion incorporating the successful candidate’s area of expertise), a second course at the 200-level in World Christianities, and an occasional upper-level seminar.
• Ongoing scholarly activity and research related to World Christianities.
• Ongoing service to the department, College, and profession.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (ABD acceptable) in Theology, Religious Studies, or related fields with evidence of expertise in World Christianities.

Review of materials begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted via Zoom and are expected to begin in November. Finalists will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation, evidence of effective teaching, and official graduate transcripts before on-campus interviews may be scheduled. On-campus interviews are expected to begin in January.
