Assistant Professor – Physician Assistant Studies
Position Overview
Full-time, Assistant Professor; twelve-month, non-tenure track position to teach in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies in the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences (RSHS). Primary responsibilities will include classroom and laboratory teaching, assisting with instruction in the simulation lab, student advisement, student assessment, and student remediation. Faculty course instructors are expected to be effective in planning, execution, and assessment of courses to ensure students achieve programmatic competencies and learning outcomes. Secondary responsibilities include programmatic assessment, student advising, clinical site development, maintaining documentation as required by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), the accrediting body for physician assistant educational programs, service to the university community and mentoring students. Principal faculty are responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students. Ideally, this candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in PA/medical education and possess a research doctoral degree. A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a physician or physician assistant is necessary, ideally in the fields of emergency medicine, women’s health, or primary care. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is fully accredited, and well-established. This position requires a strong background in healthcare, clinical expertise, and the ability to deliver course content effectively. All university faculty are expected to demonstrate activity in teaching, scholarship, and service. Additionally, this position offers a unique opportunity to establish, or continue a research agenda while mentoring students through research processes. Opportunities also exist to provide instruction to students of other disciplines within the health sciences.
Teaching and Program Responsibilities
- Course instruction in courses, as assigned.
- Course preparation and development of new and creative instructional materials, teaching methods, and assessment activities.
- Assist in lab sessions, practical testing, and simulation activities.
- Identify and help develop clinical training sites.
- Student support and advising.
- Maintain accurate records on students.
- Assist with curriculum review, revision, and development; write and update course syllabi.
- Participate in departmental meetings and committees.
- Participate in University committees, as appropriate.
- Participate in department and University events and ceremonies.
- Collect and analyze data such as surveys and student assessments required by the University and the ARC-PA, the accrediting body for educational programs.
- Participates in student selection and admissions process as well as participates in student orientation, recruitment events and student evaluation.
- Maintains clinical competency/practice and knowledge of current best practices within the profession.
- Participates in the development, monitoring, refining and assessment of plans to achieve the vision of the program, consistent with the broader missions and strategic directions of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences.
- Participate in scholarship and service activities as required to maintain licensure and board certification.
- Demonstrate an interest in working in a collaborative/interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate commitment to interprofessional education or interprofessional clinical practice.
- Demonstrate an interest in evidence-based practice, research/scholarship, or grant writing.
- Demonstrate commitment to contribute to building an inclusive and welcoming environment for colleagues and students.
Qualifications
- Current NCCPA certification
- Current license or eligibility to obtain license
- Master’s degree conferred from an ARC-PA accredited PA program
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching
- Experience in student instruction preferred
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills

- Physical requirements are consistent with an office and classroom environment as well as laboratory and clinical environment
