Job Duties:
The Department of Public Health and Community Health Education is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor in Public Health and Community Health Education effective August 2026. The ideal candidate is expected to pursue excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and service.
Successful candidates should embrace pedagogical excellence, including technology and collaborative hands-on experiences for students, and will be expected to teach undergraduate, with future opportunities to potentially teach graduate courses. Candidates will work within curricula driven by Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) criteria as well as the Areas of Responsibility for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) and should be willing and excited to teach a range of courses in public health and community health education. These could include grant writing, the US health care system, global health, biostatistics, quantitative research methods, and various other public health core and content areas across the lifespan addressing the social determinants of health.
The ideal candidate will also be expected to show proof of an active research agenda that can be maintained and developed across campus and in the community. Examples of topics that fit current university and department priorities include advocacy and community-engaged health, particularly focused on health disparities and equity. Other desired activities include seeking internal and extramural funding and supporting professional and community partnerships. The candidate is expected to advise undergraduate public health students, with possible opportunities to mentor graduate students as well.
Professional experience outside of academia in public health or health education and health promotion is preferred, as is active involvement in or with professional organizations. The ideal candidate should be positive, organized and reliable, have strong interpersonal skills and be team oriented. The candidate should further promote evidence-based practices while being open-minded, creative, and flexible in embracing new ideas. These attributes will be essential in providing leadership to the department as UWL and higher education overall evolves, partly through our structure of shared governance.

- Doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Education/Promotion, or related field. ABD will be considered. The degree must be earned by the end of the first academic year.
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), and/or Certified in Public Health (CPH)
