The Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego invites applications for a tenure-track faculty assistant professor in the area of the Sociology of Science. We seek applicants whose teaching and research takes a critical approach to Science and Technology Studies in Sociology. Related areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to, the social dimensions of health and medicine, socio-environmental impacts, and information technology.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach our lower division-required course in Quantitative Methods and in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load is 3 courses a semester. We seek applicants with outstanding potential for teaching, research, and publication, along with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Candidates will be expected to teach courses in the Sociology of Science, Quantitative Methods, as well as a range of upper-level courses within the candidate's area of specialty. We prioritize candidates who engage with contemporary issues, can teach a broad range of courses, and demonstrate a strong commitment to questions of democracy and social justice.
Candidates should hold an advanced degree, preferably a doctorate or other terminal degree. ABD candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should also have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and research, mentoring undergraduates, and fostering a climate of inclusion and diversity.
Posting Salary: $7,000-7,333/month; Excellent Benefits. The University of San Diego offers a very competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, a retirement contribution, and access to on-campus Fitness Centers.
