Basic Function: Riverside City College is seeking an Assistant Professor, Spanish and one other language (Italian or French). The successful candidate will be responsible for lecture and laboratory instruction in beginning, intermediate, and high-intermediate Spanish language courses, and one other language. Assignment may also include courses in conversation and in culture and civilization. In addition, the chosen candidate will foster the growth of the Spanish and one other language programs and develop strategies that meet the needs of a diverse student population and facilitate retention and success.

Education:
Master's in the language being taught (Spanish) or Bachelor's in the language being taught (Spanish) and Master's in another language (Italian or French) or linguistics or the equivalent. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)
Experience:
1) A minimum of two years successful experience teaching Spanish and/or one other language classes at the college level is required.
2) Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and one other language (either Italian or French) and in English is also required.
3) Demonstrated knowledge of current theories in language acquisition and experience with modern language teaching methodologies is required.
4) Knowledge of, or experience with, distance learning, educational technology and programs (or software) used in the context of world language instruction, such as language lab and/or virtual language lab operations.
5) Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in student learning outcomes assessment at the course and program levels is strongly desired.
6) Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the process of program review is strongly desired.
7) Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in teaching and/or developing curriculum for not only learners of Spanish as a second language but also Native/Heritage speakers of Spanish is strongly desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will, among other things:
1. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline(s) assigned.
2. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, evaluation of students, office hours, department level duties, institutional service (such as committee work or involvement with student activities), curriculum and program development, participation in the assessment of student learning outcomes, and program review, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement. Hours may include evenings, weekends, and off-site locations.
3. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
4. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development and other matters are also expected of all department faculty.
5. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
6. Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.
Conditions of Employment:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District and College promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
