Position Summary

Responsible for managing and directing key academic support projects for the Office of the Provost including the oversight of University accreditation, monitoring and ensuring compliance of educational programming (including new degree and modification proposals), supporting the doctoral council and PhD program reviews, and oversight of academic integrity. This role offers guidance and counsel to the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, the Vice Provost for Educational Initiatives, the Provost and the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives & Planning on a variety of issues including graduate, professional and undergraduate student academic and university policies. The position also manages Danforth Dean and Provost Unit reviews.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Provost Office primary contact with responsibility for numerous policy & compliance topics, university-wide reporting projects, and communicating updated or new compliance guidelines. Partners with Vice Provosts, schools, University Registrar, Office of Student Financial Aid, OISS and graduate admissions teams.
  • Assist Vice Provost for Graduate Education and the Doctoral Council with the regular review of university-wide academic policies for graduate and professional students including research and peer benchmarking. Oversee the Doctoral Council’s PhD Program Review process. Plan and develop each review, lead the support team, establish and monitor the timelines and outcomes. Communicate best practices in graduate and progressional education, building connections across campus to enhance efficiencies and opportunities among the graduate programs. Serve as Provost Office liaison to ensure PhD programs in schools are in alignment with university policies.
  • Direct and provide counsel on graduate and undergraduate academic & University-wide policies. Partners with Vice Provosts and schools to implement and manage policies. Continually update administration on current new and changes made to educational regulations, and partner with the University Registrar, the Student Financial Aid leadership, and Graduate admissions on such matters.
  • Manage degree approval process. Partner with schools and University registrar accordingly. Maintain and improve degree database, new degree process review and approval (for Provost and Deans), and manage the communications related to these requests.
  • Manage teams supporting PhD reviews, academic integrity oversight, accreditation and compliance topics.
  • Serve as academic integrity resource to departments to ensure that all university and graduate school policies are followed. Serve on university-wide committees related to Academic Integrity.
  • Collaborate with campus partners through advocacy, leadership, and communication. Skillfully interpreting data and advises the administration on decision challenges and opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight years relevant experience or Master’s degree and five years relevant experience in academic policy and/or compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and seven to ten years of related experience.
  • Relevant experience in higher education and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of WashU systems, including SLATE and Workday.
  • Ability to relate well to a variety of constituents on academic and personal levels as well as to show sensitivity to student concerns.
  • Broad understanding of the issues of higher education, assessment, and research methods, and the ability to develop options and make recommendations within a contextual understanding of institutional needs.
  • Experience in Graduate Education dynamics and culture.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication.

Salary Range

$84,200.00 - $148,500.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
