Assistant Research Professor
Job Summary
The Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver/Children's Hospital Colorado seeks an Assistant Research Professor responsible for projects investigating the role of redox signaling and inflammation in pulmonary vascular disease. Duties will include research and teaching associated with the laboratory research team. This position will be based at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO.
Duties include:
- Develop new methodologies and perform experiments using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectroscopy (EPR) in biomedical research
- Prepare samples for EPR experiments using circulating monocytes and neutrophils, blood, alveolar fluid, or tissue samples from human clinical studies; cell culture models; tissue, isolated primary cells and fluids from animal models of organ injury; live rodents injected with EPR spin probes/traps
- Optimize and perform EPR experiments at room temperature and under liquid nitrogen
- Develop protocols for measurement of circulating reactive oxygen species in live mice
- Develop and optimize protocols to measure superoxide, nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide, peroxynitrite, hydroxyl radical, oxidized lipids, oxidized glutathione testing various spin probes or traps
- Perform EPR experiments and optimize protocols for differentiation of intracellular, extracellular and mitochondrial superoxide
- Develop protocols to measure ROS in cells and rodents under hypoxic conditions
- Analyze data and prepare graphs for presentations, manuscripts and grants
- Initiate protocols for future development of in vivo EPR program
- Training and mentoring graduate students and/or laboratory
