Assistant Teacher, Learning and Belonging Preschool
The Learning and Belonging Preschool within the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education invites applications for an Assistant Teacher to support both instructional and operational aspects of the program during the academic year. This position is split approximately 50/50 between classroom teaching and administrative duties, in collaboration with the Early Childhood Clinical Specialists (Lead Teacher) and the Director. This is an academic year (AY) position.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the ECCS (Early Childhood Clinical Specialists) to develop curriculum and outcome-based evaluation processes aligned with NAEYC Accreditation Standards and Montana DPHHS licensing requirements
- Co-teach in a preschool or transitional kindergarten classroom, assuming a supportive instructional role
- May act as a floating substitute teacher in other classrooms
- Engage in both informal and formal communication with families; assist in planning and conducting biannual family-teacher conferences and biannual school-wide family events
- Coordinate with ECCS to plan and prepare weekly outdoor learning center activities
- Collaborate with LAB School staff in completing annual DPHHS licensing documentation
- Maintain tuition records and processing payments, submit Best Beginnings Scholarship hours, and redistribute ProCard expenses
- Monitor and reorder consumable supplies as needed, and manage snack inventory and procurement
- Maintain and update family resource materials in the designated family room
- Assist the Director in producing and distributing the school's newsletter and/or blog
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related human services field; or current enrollment in such a program
- Must hold at least a Level 2 on the Montana Early Childhood Project Practitioner Registry or be able to obtain this level within one (1) year of hire
- Ability to implement evidence-based early childhood curricula, including inclusive practices for children with disabilities and a positive approach to guiding behavior
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning by seeking feedback and adapting teaching practices accordingly
- Communicate effectively (both written and oral) and work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Experience exercising sound judgment, professionalism, and diplomacy in all interactions
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Can utilize technology proficiently, including Microsoft Office 365, Canva, and social media platforms
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records in compliance with program standards
- Demonstrated experience upholding strict confidentiality and ethical standards in all professional matters
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with, or familiarity with the structure and practices of, university laboratory schools or similar early childhood education environments that emphasize research-based instruction and teacher development

Position Number: 066630
Compensation Title: Public Education Coordinator
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Thursday 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, 8 hours on Fridays, Academic Year (10 months/year, August through May)
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
