Job Description
The Statistics Department is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor or Assistant Lecturer in Statistics to teach undergraduate courses in statistics, provide academic advising, and contribute to professional and institutional service. Among other duties, the individual hired into this position will take the lead in our STA 261 introductory statistics course that has multiple sections and serves students of varying majors within the broad university community. Within STA 261, we are committed to having progressive teaching methodologies, effective pedagogy, a supportive, student-focused environment, and effective mentoring for graduate teaching assistants who co-teach portions of these classes.
The successful candidate should have a vision for managing and leading multiple sections of this important course, and the ability to work broadly with departmental faculty to implement the vision. The typical teaching load for this position is 24 semester credit hours per year, with approximately 80% of the workload dedicated to teaching and approximately 20% devoted to service. This position will begin in August 2026.
Based on performance, this position is eligible for subsequent reappointment with the possibility of promotion that includes longer-term continuing contracts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required: M.S. or M.A. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related area by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Lecturer. Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related area by date of appointment for appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor.
Consideration may be given to candidates who have experience in teaching within online and/or hybrid modalities; prior teaching experience at a college level; teaching with R and/or Python and/or SAS and/or JMP; and experience leading and managing a large, multi-section lower level service class that yields strong student success metrics.
