Position Description

The School of Business at the University of Washington Bothell invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in accounting effective September 16, 2026. This is a full-time position with a 9-month service period. The Assistant Teaching Professor position is not eligible for tenure.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute as an engaged colleague to serve our growing school and campus. The selected applicant will be expected to teach in multiple modalities, including online, hybrid and in-person, in a campus setting with a diverse student body, many of whom are first generation college students.

The UW Bothell School of Business is accredited by AACSB and is deeply committed to the success of its faculty in research, teaching, and service. The School of Business is well known for its undergraduate, MBA and MS Accounting programs. We work closely with industry leaders as well as smaller, innovative, and rapidly growing companies in software, electronic commerce, medical equipment, biotechnology, electronics, and aerospace. Our programs draw from companies such as Amazon, Boeing, Costco, Expedia, Microsoft, Philips, and Starbucks. We have a Beta Alpha Psi Chapter with a superior status and an Accounting Club for students.

The position requires the teaching of eight courses over three academic quarters – Autumn, Winter, and Spring. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of accounting courses including a combination of courses in the areas broadly classified under Financial Accounting, Cost and Managerial Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Auditing, and Tax at the graduate and undergraduate levels, depending on the needs of the program. The position will also involve engagement in accounting curriculum design, AACSB and other accreditation and assessment of learning procedures, and staying informed about major research methodologies used in contemporary scholarly and professional research and recent publications in professional journals. The successful candidate will be expected to provide service to the business school, the campus, the university, and the community. The expected areas of service include activities such as alumni relations, participating in external relationship building with the accounting profession and employers, and advising the School’s Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Chapter and Accounting Club. The candidate is also expected to engage in scholarship to ensure they are current in their discipline and meet the School’s Practice Academic or Scholarly Academic standards.

The definition of 'scholarly academic' follows the 2020 AACSB Accreditation Standards: Scholarly Academics (SA) are faculty who have normally attained a terminal degree in a field related to the area of teaching and who sustain currency and relevancy through scholarship and activities related to the field of teaching.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, demonstrated proficiency in teaching accounting courses independently at the university level, and/or professional certifications such as CPA/CMA or comparable.

Salary

The salary range for this position will be $12,120 - $ 14,444 per month for a 9-month contract, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in accounting or a related field by time of appointment. Five or more years of experience in teaching financial and managerial accounting and either accounting information systems, auditing, or tax. Two or more years of experience serving as BAP advisor.
